Ozone Therapy is the application of ozone for clinical purposes.
Ozone Therapy is a medical therapeutic technique that uses ozone (O3). Ozone is easily assimilated by the human body, where the extra oxygen molecule present in ozone separates, leaving only oxygen (O2). This separation allows for simultaneous high levels of oxygenation and oxidation processes, which have been found effective in treating a wide variety of pathologies
Ozone develops an oxygenation process that proves effective in treating a wide variety of pathologies.
Ozone possesses analgesic, anti-inflammatory, draining, oxygenating, antioxidant, and free radical scavenging properties,making Ozone Therapy a useful treatment in various clinical situations, with favorable results in multiple conditions, particularly in the area of bone, muscle, and joint diseases.
The therapeutic application of ozone dates back to the late 19th century, but its clinical use has progressively become more relevant in recent years.
It is a completely natural therapy with few contraindications and minimal side effects when performed correctly.
In Portugal, the first course on Medical Ozone Therapy was conducted in 2004, and currently, the technique is widely disseminated, being implemented in various public and private healthcare facilities; it is regulated as a medical therapy by the Nomenclature of the Portuguese Medical Association according to the publication of Decree-Law No. 163/2013 of April 24th.
Medical ozone therapy consists of administering ozone at appropriate concentrations for the organism and for each individual, with the aim of regulating cellular oxidative stress, modulating the immune system, stimulating microcirculation, increasing antioxidant substances, and reducing free radicals.
Benefits:
Indications:
Widely used to treat chronic pain, Ozone Therapy is currently used in over 200 diseases*, including:
– Peripheral arterial and venous circulatory problems, cardiac and cerebral;
– Wounds (infected or not), varicose ulcers; diabetic foot; burns;
– Intestinal diseases (colitis, proctits, fistulas);
– Infectious diseases (bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic) including pneumonia, post-surgical infections, repeated urinary infections, hepatitis;
– Rheumatic diseases;
– Dermatological diseases;
– Kidney diseases;
– Orthopedic diseases (tendinitis, joint injuries, chronic muscle injuries, herniated discs);
It can be applied as adjunctive therapy in cancer patients*.
* Disclaimer: Results vary from person to person, depending on pre-existing health conditions, as well as compliance with therapist guidelines.
Properties:
OXYGENATING
Increases the blood’s capacity to absorb and transport more oxygen, improving circulatory and cellular functions in general.
REVITALIZING
It has been shown to promote functional recovery in numerous patients affected by degenerative diseases.
ANTIOXIDANT (eliminates free radicals)
It is currently the only known means capable of stimulating all cellular antioxidant enzymes responsible for eliminating free radicals.
IMMUNOMODULATOR
It is capable of stimulating immune defenses in patients with immunosuppression or autoimmune diseases.
REGENERATOR
Promotes tissue regeneration, resulting in great utility in healing various types of injuries and ulcerations, joint regeneration and aesthetic medicine.
ANALGESIC AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY
The local application of ozone gas neutralizes mediators of painful sensation.
GERMICIDE
Inactivates and eliminates all types of pathogenic microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi and viruses.
