What is Hyperbaric Medicine?
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a painless and non-invasive treatment known not only for its health benefits but also for aesthetic medicine. It is a therapeutic modality that involves the delivery of pure oxygen (FiO2 = 100%) in a pressurized environment at a level above atmospheric pressure, typically between two and three atmospheres.
The oxygen inhaled under pressure will be diluted in the plasma (the liquid part of the blood) and reach all parts of the body, stimulating healing cells, forming new blood vessels, acting as a harmful agent for some bacteria (anaerobic), and stimulating bone formation.
High levels of oxygen in the body will help improve blood flow, increase cellular metabolism and collagen production, and promote the growth of new cells, leading to more efficient healing and regenerative action.
In summary: the goal is to “deliver oxygen to tissues suffering from lack of oxygen.”
